Anglican Congregation of St James in Fuerteventura
Back in 2003, Rev William Lark, then Chaplain of Lanzarote, was approached about holding a regular Anglican mass at Corralejo. So on 20th July 2003 the first Anglican Eucharist celebration was held in the Catholic Church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen. Thus the weekly Sunday evening services in English began: either a Liturgical Celebration with Slowly a membership list was formed and in April 2007, the first annual general meeting was held and a committee appointed. Their first task was to name the Congregation and it was decided that it should be “The Anglican Congregation of St James in Fuerteventura”. A further milestone occurred on 10th June 2007 when Father Idris Vaughan (then Chaplain of Lanzarote) commissioned Penny Melville as a Congregational Worship Leader. On Tuesday 8th April 2008 the Inaugural Annual General Meeting of the Anglican Congregation of St James in Fuerteventura took place where a resolution was passed to seek recognition as a Congregation, independent of Lanzarote. Today, we can look back with thankfulness on how God has led us in establishing a Congregation and regular worship here, we are especially grateful for all who have given time, effort and money to further the work of his church and the generous hospitality of the Catholic Church. We look forward with great hope, praying that God’s hand will guide us on the right paths that one day Fuerteventura may be a full Chaplaincy within the Diocese of Europe. |
